Re: A cool Value Village find ! ^_^

Last time I was at VV they had some 80s Ninja Turtles, the Dragon Dagger from Power Rangers, vintage 80s X-men figures, and some green transforming thing which vaguely resembled a fire-truck, roughly voyager sized. I didn't recognize it, and left it there assuming it was a knock-off.

Re: A cool Value Village find ! ^_^

Wow, tons of stuff today at Value Village Guelph. Unfortunately, some employee there thinks that old = valuable.

Spotted:

  • 2 Transmetal Terrorsaurs 4.99 (I bought one)
  • 1 Super Gobot Warpath 7.99 (!) (missing at least the rotor)
  • 1 BW Razorclaw 2.99
  • 1 Cybertron Defense Hot Shot 2.99 (I bought this too)
  • Assorted GI Joe figures 3.99 each
  • BW Magnaboss Silverbolt (eagle) 4.99 (missing one feather missile)
  • bag of Samurai TMNT figures 4.99
  • 4 Galoob TNG figures 4.99 (Riker, Picard, Troi, Geordi)
There was a cat-like BWTF as well. I'm thinking it was BW Magnaboss Prowl, but I was in a hurry.

In the glass cases up front:

  • 1 G2 Sideswipe (couldn't see the price)
  • 1 Universe King Atlas (couldn't see the price)
  • 1 BW Magnaboss Ironhide, all splayed out. Think it was 7.99, but maybe 9.99
  • 1 BW Transmetal Waspinator 14.99 (!)

They also still had the thrashed G1 Ratchet for $8 or $9 and the Aerialbots for $12.99 each

There's all sorts of stuff in the cases up front -- Star Trek Christmas ornaments, gameboy games.

On the one hand, it's neat to see all this stuff. On the other hand, it sucks because there's someone with a little knowledge, which is a dangerous thing. I'd say most of this stuff is way overvalued -- an incomplete TM Waspinator for 14.99 is particularly laughable, as is 7.99 for a thrashed and incomplete Super Gobot. And you can find a more complete Magnaboss for less on eBay.

And why split up Magnaboss and put two pieces in the back of the store on pegs and one piece up front in the glass case?

Does anyone know how distribution works for VV? I had thought that stuff stays more or less local, but I saw a ST:TNG puzzle last week in Kitchener and then a different one tonight in Guelph. They're both awful but obviously from the same retail time period, which makes me think they came from the same donor but went to different stores.

Hitting some more local stores tomorrow, so maybe I'll see.

Well, the G2 Sideswipe definitely sounds tasty if it's not too fucked up or expensive, but I guess that's the case with anything really.

Re: A cool Value Village find ! ^_^

It all depends on who seems to be pricing the stuff.

Yesterday I saw a broken Animated Leader Bulkhead and they wanted 5.99 for it. Yet I've seen much larger unbroken figures sell for half of that.

Right now at the VV in Kitchener there's a bag of Wonder Woman stuff in the glass display up front (Barbie Doll Alarm, Alarm clock, lunch box, a couple of note books) None of the stuff is very old, most of it looks like it came out in the last 5 years. They're asking 69.99 for everything. It's probably not even worth half of that.

Oh well - it's their store. They can price things how they see fit to.

Re: A cool Value Village find ! ^_^

Sounds like maybe some of the pricers are using eBay Buy It Now prices to set theirs on older/collectable stuff?

Problem with that is that many BIN prices are borderline insane.

I might do that, if it's still there next week. A better looking one just went for $10 plus shipping on eBay, though this one might have had the gun. I don't remember.

So, did the rounds today. Whole lot of nothing.

Amusing non-Transformers finds today:

at Value Village Sportsworld, an Atari VCS with power and hookups for (wait for it) $29.99. That's probably not too bad (if it worked) but the games! Star Raiders with the touchpad for 14.99 and common 2600 games (loose) for 7.99. Each!

At Talize, they had four bags of Lego. But then I recognized they were mostly Lego Star Wars. Some AT-TE, some Millenium Falcon, some Jabba's Sail Barge and a Jedi Starfighter. I dithered for awhile, since I doubt a complete set could be made -- it was all in pieces and I'm sure there are pieces missing. (There might have been other bags that already sold, too.) But the minifigures sold me. I could probably sell them and make back the money I spent.

Man, everytime I go into that spot I never find anything hardly. But that's only once or twice every few months though.

It's like you hit the jackpot..
