Hate it. Like the Energon/Cybertron Scouts/Deluxes included in the ROTF line.

I am not a real fan of repaints and renames. However, I often find myself getting repaints and renames only because I've missed get them in their earlier or original variants. So this way, it's a more affordable way of obtaining the robo-vehicle-models i want without paying the orig or g1 prices etc.
Cybertron, Universe, Movie1, and even Energon is NOTORIOUS for it. oh well.

I think from a business standpoint, repaints have become sort of a necessity to offset mold costs. Which means that we're going to get some repaints that are obvious, like cliffjumper and skywarp, some repaints that we may not even care about, like nemisis prime / white magnus, and some that come right out of left field, like say Roadbuster Magnus or Blazing Lockdown. Some are bound to be interesting, especially if the mold is good to begin with, but others are bound to just shelfwarm. Its a chance to bring in new characters who may not have had a chance at life otherwise, as well as to bring back old favorites who might not have the popularity to warrant a figure of their own. I think its a gamble on the part of Hasbro, and as you can see by reading this thread, no matter what, reactions are going to be mixed.

At the very least, the shelfwarming repaints provide good kitbash fodder.

Personally I dislike them. Sure some molds look cool in different colours and sure it helps to get a re-colour if you missed buying the original...but all in all I think they are a waste. The original is enough for me and its just another cash-in for Hasbro or whatever company it might be.

My main exception to this is in the case of robot "twins" or "brothers." But those too get carried away at some point.

But they have been doing it since the G1 days and it does not look like it will end.

Depends. For example, when a vast improvement over the original is made, that's a good one (ie Armada Red Alert to Movie Inferno)

I don't mind them, because it gives people a chance to get the mold if they've missed out on the original.

And some look better then the originals too.

IE: Cy.Defense Red Alert into Count Down.

I don't really mind them. If they're good I'll get them, if not then I can just skip them. Sometimes the same mold with different colours as a new character works pretty well (I like Movie Fracture, Movie Big Daddy more than the original characters).
