I only buy mutiples in a situation where I can troop build, like with Classics Acid Storm or G1 Scourge. Otherwise I have seen people do it for kitbashing or the love of that special character.

Sometimes you just love a mold so much you have to get two. For example I love the classics sunstreaker/sideswipe mold. I mess with them all the time. I can see that one day, there's a good possibility that I'll have a brain fart, or from wear and tear, I'll break them. So if I can get them on sale now why not have a back up just in case. At worst you'll have some trade fodder down the road.

right now, i think i only have two identical figuresa, classics rodimus, and metal plate g1 prime, rodimus #2 will become rodimus prime, and the second prime is in rough shape

I see people do it for putting different mode for display. For example, 6 shots, and RID Megatron (9 forms). LOL.
thanks to the available upgrade kit, people like to put original, vehicle mode and upgrade mode as well.
here comes to my question again, can the Takara animated figure counts for identical to the Hasbro one ?
It is not like Henkei vs universe.
