Re: Value Village: what are your Transformers findings?

My fiancé works at VV, I'm not sure if it's company wide but at their store the rule is items have to be on the shelf for a couple of days before they're allowed to buy them. After that, it's pretty much fair game.
When she first started working there, that wasn't a rule, so like I said I don't know if it's company wide or just their store.

Re: Value Village: what are your Transformers findings?

Clearly the Winnipeg VV has more to offer than some of the others like, for instance, the Victoria VV.

I wonder, Robimus, what sort of shape the toys you mentioned were in? Personally, I would be satisfied without accessories, but my VV finds are missing limbs, or have been painted on by what appears to be a 4-year old.

Not saying that TRU or WM (your source for cheap plastic crap) is the answer. In fact, in my youth, one had to travel to the US to visit a TRU and what a visit it was! They had everything...everything!

Today's TRU has "gone to seed" if you ask me. At least the one in Victoria.

Still say VV may be a good place to get a quick cheap suit, but has not in my experience produced a single decent transformer toy.

Re: Value Village: what are your Transformers findings?

Here is a recent find to help judge the quality. The Action Master were all in good shape, as was the Triggercon. Seaspray's seem to always be around Buzzsaw in the back is in great shape as well but the Rocklord did have a broken head fin.

Just after this haul I got a Slugslinger & Fangry(both minus the parts of course) in excellent shape.

Sometimes I do find stuff in bad shape, sometimes I bite on it, sometimes not depending on how rare the bot is.

Newer stuff, and even the Beast Wars stuff often sucks because they are missing limbs. I only pick up that type of stuff if they are in really good shape and the price is right.

Of course Winnipeg has 5 VV's so there are more options here than in some places(and certainly less than in the GTA of course).

Yes, most are built but have found a few unbuilt, best one was a Unicorn RX-0 for 9.99

Rescued a G1 Hound last night, $3.99, (I believe it is a Diaclone) marked as TAKARA JAPAN in a circle. it missing left turn signal and weapons + Gas tank, but other than that in great condition.

Will post pic later pretty happy on the find, the fun is the hunt I guess

Hoping it's not a knockoff and as with most TF's from VV they seem to be missing accessories and weapon. Alot are generally missing bits but great for customs.

It also has to do where you live, if you are in a populated area, you have a higher chance finding stuff and how often you visit. I live in a town outside of Toronto and most of the time my local VV has nothing, the best I found was a couple of comics and Yu-Gi-Oh cards.

I go months without anything good showing up and then BAM (See my last haul). sometimes it's just okay stuff for a few days in a row and then back to another dry spell.

Re: Value Village: what are your Transformers findings?

One time at a VV built inside my High School gym, I found a MISB Europe release Overlord for $5, but I woke up before I could find the checkouts. Also my old French Teacher said we couldn't leave until she found another spatula.
