Well, here he is! After several months of trying to do the best I can, Whirl is ready to wreck and rule. This custom is for the Canadian Fallen Heroes charity being run by Cliffjumper 69.
This project was several firsts for me. It's my first charity piece of this size (my first one was a scout size), and is also the first time I ever did battle damage. I didn't originally intend for Whirl to look this beat up but it's surprising how fun it is to carve up a toy. I did some dry brushing all over to help give him that beat up look. I just hope it's not too much.
This was made using the HFTD Tomahawk mold and an 07 movie Payload head. The extra weapon was made from the canon from an over-sized KO mini-con and a random tube.
Because of the size of the head, it has to be popped off the neck joint. It perfectly stores inside the hollow underneath the cockpit and actually helps to fill it out nicely, even managing to look like a heavy duty searchlight/spy camera.
I hope you all enjoy Whirl as much as I did working on him.
I think the length of the missle is part of the toy saftey laws. They have to be big enough not to swallow or something. It doesn't really affect the missles preformance, especially when they stick static on display.
