Everyone uses what they like basically. I use imgur as it has never given me issues. You can use any type I would imagine so long as it fits with the guidleines size wise. You could also do straight uploads through the advanced features and then click manage attachments

IMGUR seems to work pretty well. I personally use Flickr as it has great compression algorithms and awesome options for sharing and hot-linking.
