Re: Aaaaaaarrrrrrghhhhh!
Hey everybody,
Thanks for the overwhelming response.
I had an idea. Since I'm not the only one with a broken Defender, what about making an improved replacement part thru shapeways. The part looks reversible so both sides can be upgraded with a stronger design. I'll post pics.

Re: Aaaaaaarrrrrrghhhhh!
I find that the plastic used on the FP stuff is pretty good, but not the most durable.
And to me, just because a toy is expensive, doesn't mean it's going to be problem free. Every toy I have expensive or cheap, almost always has some problem with it big or small. Just how it is with manufactured goods, just sucks more when the product is a higher value.

Re: Aaaaaaarrrrrrghhhhh!
from looking at the part, not sure shapeways will help, wsf material will likely not do that gear top justice. and depending on how it fits into the entire assembly, redesigning the part might be impossible or at least require modding of the parts to accomidate.
(thinks) but if the same part from the other side is Identical. well might be possible to recast it in a stronger material that will be less prone to breaking like that.
btw, that IS fixable depending on the state of the break etc, but just from the pic it looks like it could be repaired and useable, though i wouldn't roughhousing it after repair.

Re: Aaaaaaarrrrrrghhhhh!
If anyone has the means to make a part like this let me know. It pains me to have a sweet figure like this broken. I'm sure anyone else with a broken Defender like mine would appreciate it too.

Re: Aaaaaaarrrrrrghhhhh!
mike. hold onto it and when we meet up to do our deal you can show me the part, in person i'll be able say if it's actually fixable or needs replacing. if replacing i'll take yours and replicate it on shapeways 4 ya.

Re: Aaaaaaarrrrrrghhhhh!
Not sure on the plastic quality for shapeways, but if you're looking to fix the original piece, you may try Hot Stuff. It's a very strong liquid cement used for assembling miniatures (Warhammer) and I'll admit to using it to effect some minor repairs to household appliances, toys, etc...

Re: Aaaaaaarrrrrrghhhhh!
Other than Shapeways, you might want to find one of those maker spaces, or whatever they're called, in Toronto, find one that has a reprap or a similar hobby 3d printer, and they could maybe print a replacement using plastic.

Re: Aaaaaaarrrrrrghhhhh!
yes, a reprap/mendal could easily pop out a copy, though u still need a 3d model of it anywyas. cant vouch for individual plastic quality though. don't have mine yet boo. but i think safe to say shapeways industrial equpment will have better resolution and such,
the reprap system is getting there, but still a year or so off without a significant breakthrough.
