Greenlight and Dazzlestrike

I am just checking up on some obscure toys for my collection and came across this:

https://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_from...+for+cybertron

Greenlight cannot possibly be in high demand, yet everyone is asking this ridiculous price. Is she more popular than I realize or am I missing something?

The way it was distributed to retailers, Greenlight felt like an exclusive because she sold out quickly. So the price climbed up pretty high.

I checked the sold listings and 10 sold for those prices.

Change the head and colors and a mold that you can probably still find on the shelves of Canadian tire sells for a mine.

Obscure and hard to find character that is only really of interest to completionist collectors. It's the perfect storm for a high-price figure.

Re: Greenlight and Dazzlestrike

It's a product of supply & demand, like anything else. It being an exclusive limited the supply, and despite the weak character reference, a lot of collectors wanted to finish their all fembot combiner, so the demand was there.

Re: Greenlight and Dazzlestrike

Like everyone said, it's the perfect storm: it's part of a combiner set so it has built-in completionist leanings, is an obscure character of some note that has a G1 origin, and a character that has only this one representation in toy form, was only available through a single retailer with restricted purchase requirements (being a limited time Prime Day thing) that was produced in low quantities and never got significant secondary restocks or down-the-line broader distribution.

Everything about it perfectly aligns to make it highly sought after by the most obsessive/driven corners of the collector fandom who would be willing to pay more than just some person trawling for interesting TFs for their collection, while also making it rarer than a standard release wave off-the-shelf figure to drive the baseline value/price up.

Almost makes me wish I had kept mine in the box, but at the same time I value actually having the fun rare thing without having had to pay an arm and a leg for it.

I don't do the combiner thing because Orthia looks fugly thanks to the awkward wide body torso that Elita makes (it reminds me of the way Bayverse Starscream looks, which I dislike). But I do like just having a whole fembot pack to display with the 4 limbs, Chromia, Elita, and Arcee. I dislike the PoP Starscream mold for Starscream but I think the odd proportions almost sorta work for Elita
