Re: TFs and HD-DVD
I wonder how long I should wait before I get the HD-DVD player. When do Xmas sales start happening?
Perhaps beginning of November?
I wanna watch it in HD!!!

Edit; sorry I thought there was a price match opportunity, but futuershop has the A2 on clearance. You can get the A3 (or any player) however with a free copy of Transformers:

Re: TFs and HD-DVD
The movie is fantastic in HD. I'm watching it on Samsung 1080p ln5265f. I'll post some pics of the movie on my tv for those who are on the fence. Its the only way to watch it and some of the net enabled features are friggin awesome.

For xmas shoppers...
Walmart has Venturer (repackaged toshiba a3) HD-DVD player for $197
Costco has a RCA (i think) HD-DVD player for $199
Perfect time to pick one up for transformers in HD! I'm going hunting today...too bad xmas is still 3.5 weeks away

Re: TFs and HD-DVD
Dredging up an old thread, I know, but I thought it would be relevant here.
Blu-Ray has won the High Definition DVD battle.
Quote:
TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- Toshiba Corp. (6501.TO) said Tuesday that it will discontinue its next-generation DVD business, a move that will likely close the books on what had become one of the consumer electronics industry's biggest format battles. But in a sign of its determination to bounce back quickly by investing heavily in other business areas, the Japanese electronics company at the same time unveiled a plan to spend more than Y1.7 trillion, or $15.7 billion, to construct two new NAND-type flash memory plants in Japan. The plants are slated to kick off production in 2010.
...
The Tokyo-based electronics conglomerate said it will cease research and production of HD DVD equipment and will stop selling such products around March 31. Toshiba has so far has sold about 1 million units of HD DVD equipment worldwide including players and recorders.
The decision underscores almost certain defeat of the HD DVD format developed by Toshiba to the rival camp, led by Sony Corp. (6758.TO), whose DVD players and recorders operate on the Blu-ray Disc standard.
The high-definition DVD market is key for both the movie business and the consumer electronics industry, with sales of players and discs likely to provide a lucrative stream of revenue for years to come. Both Sony and Toshiba have poured significant resources into their efforts to win customers over to their formats.
Sony is part of a Blu-ray consortium that includes Japan's Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. (6752.TO) and Samsung Electronics Co. (005930.SE) of South Korea. In addition to Toshiba, HD DVD backers include Japan's NEC Corp. (6701.TO) and Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd (6764.TO), as well as Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) and Intel Corp. (INTC).

Thought it might interest people still thinking about getting a HD-DVD player in order to get TFTM in HD.
