Re: Automaton and other Canadian stores and US Dollars
Not complaining, stating facts. The fact is I (and I suspect I am not alone) will not pay a Canadian retailer in USD. Especially when the yen converts better anyway. So retailers can charge in whatever they like, but whatever the reasons, I will just buy from somewhere else. Hurrah!

Re: Automaton and other Canadian stores and US Dollars
But wait the shipping is in USD!....
Anyways they want cost certainty bc if they buy it at point a exchange rate and then sell it in the future that may have a lower exchange rate that is more common that an an increase in the rate then that eats into their profits...

I agree with you dude. Yen is a more favourable conversion rate. I dont get it why people buy from canadian etailers they are 2nd or 3rd down the distribution channel at least. I buy as close to the top of the chain as possible.

Re: Automaton and other Canadian stores and US Dollars
I don't like the practice either. Theres really no good reason to do so, either. Who is the market, Canadians ot Americans? Americans are just like us in that they buy from whom gives the best price for the service. We get killed on shipping costs, let alone taxes. But why quote in usd unless you get more u.s. clientelle? Thats the only reason i can tell. But its not like I'd supports anymore often if it was in cdn, simply because it costs more. So no real loss.

Re: Automaton and other Canadian stores and US Dollars
You know what's funny?? The fact that eventually border officials will catch on to what's going on and you'll get screwed for that. I assume that most if not all canadian online sellers have to pay duty on the stuff they bring in for us to buy. Who the hell says y'all are so special you can circumvent the rules and not pay duties?

Re: Automaton and other Canadian stores and US Dollars
I thought shipping from Asia is usually killer, and you roll the dice on the taxes and fees. Plus if you have a problem with the figure, support can be a real problem.
From Mario or Eric or Dan or our other Canadian vendors, I get known tax and shipping costs and support if something is wrong with my figure.

Unless i'm doing the math incorrectly?

Re: Automaton and other Canadian stores and US Dollars
You guys are forgetting one think, the banks charge you a fee to convert your money to US funds, so does your credit cards.
By Canadian retailers charging us in US funds we do pay more.
They should offer to send us our bills in Canadian funds, they can find out the exchange rate very easily at the time they send an invoice.
I personally prefer to shop where I get the best price, lately that is overseas.
