DOTM Toyline: First Impressions

With the new figures and packaging revealed, we' ve gotten a fairly good look at the new toyline (not great, but fair) What is your opinion on these new figures?

I personally feel that the figures have taken a step backwards. I think the designs are trying to work around the MechTech gimmick, where as the ROTF figures incorporated MechAlive after the designs were completed. Some look okay but some just look strange.

Re: DOTM Toyline: First Impressions

I agree that from what we've seen, it doesn't look too great. However, it may still be a little early to pass judgment on the line, since we haven't seen too much. You may be right about the MechTech though, look at Bumblebee for example. Battle Blades Bee has an axe, and gun, and both his hands, but for whatever reason they removed those accessories and added a big gun, which doesn't even seem to be incorporated within the figure other than sitting on the top.

I do like the HA-like buggy though, and oddly enough he doesn't incorporate the new gimmick. The new Legends figures are also looking pretty good.

Re: DOTM Toyline: First Impressions

Meh, ya looks like they took two steps back with BB and OP, it kinda looks like there will be some sort of combining gimmick? I'm afraid how much of that will clog shelves for the good stuff, assuming anything good will come of TF3? I wonder if the buggy is the same scale as HA or if that figure is GIJoe scale...

Looks like DOTM = Darkside of the Marketing.

I'm hoping that most everything we've seen so far is mistransformed and terribly lit. If it isn't, then it's all fairly crappy. That Voyager(?) Prime looks bad - like, Armada level design bad. Ironhide, meh. Absolutely no more Bees for me. Dune Buggy-bot looks okay. Megatron looks alright - honestly he's the only one I'd be willing to buy so far.

Re: DOTM Toyline: First Impressions

The toy designers do what they can with the designs that they are given from the movie designers...and those are crap to begin with. As far as I am concerned the only good "movie" figures are figures that do not appear in the movie at all. I only bought 1 movie prime and megatron because I buy 1 of each from each series and any other "onscreen" figs like BB that I have are because they came in a value village bag or I got it on clearance like deluxe ratchet for his emp blaster for ROTF Lockdown. The figures that are offscreen characters are great, like Lockdown and Bludgeon, I hope they have a steady balance of those offscreen figs for collectors like me who hate the movies and the designs of the crappy robots in them.

Re: DOTM Toyline: First Impressions

I'm not a movie line fan at all but these all look to not have that quality finish that we're getting spoiled with in the Classics lines and other recent lines.

However that megs and ironhide look pretty okay! Here's hoping they'll come up with a movie figure that even I will buy.

Re: DOTM Toyline: First Impressions

I'll wait for them to show up on TFW's coverage at toy fair 2011 and see how they work and wait for peaugh to post reviews and hear his opinion on them.

but so far i'm a little disappointed.

Re: DOTM Toyline: First Impressions

I think they're on par with the ROTF DX releases. no drastics improvements but kids won't care. As long as they do a good large TF, like Leader SS, then i'd be happy
