Should I buy Smart Robin or Brainwave?

I've alwats been a huge headmasters and and brainstorm is my favourite. And with these two 3rd party figures that came out, it really gave the character a new life to say. But which one should I buy? Smart Robin or Brainwave? Please help me decide!

I have Smart Robin, and really like it a lot, except for the head. The transformation is really clever and fun for the figure, compared to the previous two releases by FP in this line. The head is based off the Japanese Headmasters cartoon, and has a actual face instead of a faceplate that most people expect for Brainstorm.

I don't have Brainwave, so I can't comment about him or compare them.

Hasbro is suppose to be releasing a voyager sized Brainstorm next year. It will be most likely based on the IDW comic design. If you aren't dead set on getting a 3P version, I suggest waiting until February to see if Hasbro reveals their Brainstorm at Toyfair. By then, if they do or don't, you can then decide if you want to go the 3P route.

Both have merits. Smart Robin is more to scale with the chugs etc - and the engineering is just nice. The Brainwave is a more sizeable figure - a little light compared to the Orion and even the Hardbone figure. The X-wing mode is nice as is the bot mode. Brainwave definitely could use either some stickers or weathering.

smart robin looks great. very accurate to the character.

brainwave looks like a chibi x wing with not a lot of detailing.

I absolutely love smart robin ans he fits in better with classics but if you don't want to spend that much dough, wait and see what Hasbro brings to the table as they have been scoring big with the new generations line.

Is the new Hasbro version also headmaster? Or just re-use the name?

All we know is we are suppose to be getting a Voyager sized figure named Brainstorm next year. There is a good chance it would be a headmaster, if Hasbro was willing to give Scoop two target masters like his G1 self had.

I like the size and head of Brainwave but I like the overall look and style of Smart Robin better. Maybe Hasbro is taking notes

Re: Should I buy Smart Robin or Brainwave?

I think Hasbro's stance up to now is that they don't want to do headmasters again, as if you lose the head then you just have a headless toy. With targetmasters like scoop, if you lose the targetmasters you still have the figure.
On top of that, IDW's Brainstorm isn't a headmaster, so I'd say the chances aren't *that* good. Having said that, I would flip the hell out if they did, I love the headmaster gimick

I have Smart Robin and I think he's awesome. Really sleek altmode and great looking bot mode. It has limited shoulder articulation, like the previous two in the line, and as previously stated the face has a face rather than a faceplate. It's not an issue for me but I know it is for some people
