Re: Customizing Q&A Thread

Here's a tutorial request for all you customizing veterans. "How to chrome plastic parts". With the upcoming release of Generations Metroplex, I'm sure there's a lot of people out that wish they could get the SDCC or Ago-Con exclusive versions just for the G1-style chromed out thighs and face but either can't afford or refuse to pay the stupid inflated prices. If possible, I think it would be a great service to the community for someone to make a tutorial on how to chrome their own regular Metroplex to match the exclusive versions.

Re: Customizing Q&A Thread

My Hasbro MP10 Optimus Prime came with a slight error. The left side cab window won't close properly because there seems to be some problem where the plastic around the upper screw of the clear plastic window won't go in all the way. First I tried to screw it in tighter, which didn't work. Then I tried to take that section apart but that clear plastic piece can't be removed without removing the red door, which is held in with a pin that can't be pushed out. Can any one help me here?
-----
Okay, just pushed on the part a bit harder than I had been and it finally gave and went down all the way so problem solved. No longer require help.

Before you try anything too involved, check to make sure that the double hinge at the waist is clipped all the way onto the arm, then that the lower torso is pushed firmly against the waist piece. Then, pinch the grill between your thumb and back of Prime with your finger and apply slight pressure with your thumb on the grill. You will feel a definite "click" if it works. If it doesn't work, bummer and good luck.

Don't think to can chrome plastic at home to well (as it is almost like plating ), should go to an auto specialist that does small plastic parts, but it isn,t cheap.

Best bet is chrome spray from CT, but looks more like shiny alumnium.

If anyone else has input, I would like to know too.

Re: Customizing Q&A Thread

^you're better off trying to sand it off by hand with scotchbrite sanding pads than with thinners/solvents.
the main wing hinges and the toe hinges don't do too well with thinners/solvents or even isoproplyl alcohol for some odd reason.
depending on how thick you applied it and what kind of paint you originally used,it could be quick and easy or a total pain.
if you do try the thinner route, stay away from the nosecone rubber and the translucent cockpit glass, and don't leave it submerged or "wet" with the thinner/solvents too long.

Re: Customizing Q&A Thread

Can any of the pros tell me how long painted super sculpey 3 takes to dry?I know the amount used or paint used can affect drying time but i'm thinking this is a little nuts.I used enough to fill classics prowl hood "space" as lost the plastic piece that went in there, painted it and after two weeks it's still tacky.

Re: Customizing Q&A Thread

Well, we're not pros, and I've never used that stuff myself, but I think Malwave did on his custom BW moon figure.

If no one answers here for a while (unfortunately this thread isn't always checked as often as we'd like) maybe try shooting him a pm.
