Re: The Masterpiece Appreciation and Speculation Thread

I saw on eBay to get an idea of MP prices, and I saw a lot of KO MP's like Takasa Tony MP Wheeljack. Is this version of Wheeljack is good?

If budget is an issue and you plan on displaying them, then ko's arent a bad idea. They are pretty close to the real thing other some details and some paint imperfections.

just youtube some reviews for yourself to decide

If you want to see more Transformers get released, support the source and don't buy the knock offs. People buy the knock offs and then they complain that nothing good is coming out of Hasbro.

I agree with you and. Most people do but when Takara releases a mold for the 10th time like MP Conehead and it's 200 dollars I can understand how people can feel alienated and turn to other options

MP Coneheads are $200+ only because of middeman profit on limited edition. In Japan MP Coneheads are priced relatively the same as MP-11 when it first came out.

I think the bigger contributor is the fact that some of the classic G1 original characters just aren't getting done.

Currently absent from the official MP lineup:

Mirage
Hound
Sunstreaker
Huffer
Gears
Cliffjumper
Jazz (yes, I know, licensing)
Trailbreaker
Reflector
etc...

All of those have not even been hinted at yet by Takara or Hasbro, so yeah, Third-party companies provide the only available option for collectors who are either looking for some of their favourite classic characters and/or want a complete G1 set.

It's basically the only reason I opted for my first two 3P figures just this year. I got Sphinx and Mightron because they delivered what I wanted for my collection that wasn't being delivered in official MP releases.

....which causes the licensed companies to have to charge $200 for the 6th mould of a figure. People are doing it to themselves.

We're talking about knock offs, not third party.

Re: The Masterpiece Appreciation and Speculation Thread

On the other hand, that excuse for Hasbro is getting a little old. If Hasbro released great toys at reasonable prices, people wouldn't buy the knockoffs.

Arguably, nothing great has come out of Hasbro since Animated.

Re: The Masterpiece Appreciation and Speculation Thread

Hasbro has almost nothing to do with MP. MP has always been a Takara projects. At first Hasbro was piggybacking on the project but Hasbro isn't doing anything to the line anymore and their timing and wholesale pricing to TRU has been plain stupid.

Re: The Masterpiece Appreciation and Speculation Thread

Over-sized knock-offs are fun for their play factor.

But as part of my proper collection, I avoid KOs. I have no problems with Third party figures.

But getting KOs instead of the official figures will lower overall demand for the official ones, which means Takara is even LESS inclined to release figures in decent numbers.

They'll go limited runs. So the price just goes up even more then.
