You know, that is true. Actually, after a second look at most Transformers lines these days, it looks like Hasbro and Takara are double and tripple dipping on almost every character.

Many Animated figures have seen releases in different size classes.

Same with Movie 1 and Movie 2 figures.

So in any given series, there's potential for a character to have as many as 10 or so releases with the same alt mode in a single line before even needing a repaint or altered character bio, or even new character art on the packaging. All they need to do is scale it and pack it in a different size class.

So that's Hasbro and Takara double dipping, but then it jumps to tripple dipping when you look at very popular characters like Bumblebee and Optimus Prime, who are released again with a slightly different paint scheme. And then again with slight retooling


Although repaints are not new, this double and tripple dipping is something new. Back in Generation 1 we wouldn't see the same character with the same alt mode released in different scales within the same line. Now I know the scales didn't really exist back then, but it would have been very easy to have repainted some minibots to look like some of the larger figures.
