They did this with Motormaster - discounted a bit before sending out the more expensive preorders - and some who ordered at the discount received it (before the preorders, or preorders were not fulfilled at all).

Cancelled my old TwinTwist order at 35.99 and re-ordered at the the sale price: 29.96 , either way the item is TEMPORARILY OOS

It was still "yesterday" when i checked.
It does appear to be back down again now but I'm not going to deal with the fuss and potential risk of being pushed back in the queue for the sake of $6
