Did you check it with a price scanner? If it rang up on the scanner as that price than I hold no hopes for this line, and I was really looking forward to it as well, but I'm not paying 20$ for 65 pieces when I can pay 8$ for the same amount from LEGO.

Re: Star Trek Kreo Bird of Prey Released in Canada

A quick check over on Hasbro's site indicates the following prices in US Currency.

Small Ship Models Hasbro's MSRP 4.99$ (Known price at US TRUs where they have been spotted 6.99$) Expected CND Price going off of Transformers sets with similar prices Mech Venom Strike and Dragon Assault 7.99$

Small Sets seen at Toy Fair, Space Dive and the Shuttle set which according to Hasbro's site is called Spock's Volcano Mission 7.99$ US funds. Expected CND Price estimate, between 9.99$-12.99$ possibly.

Transporter Trouble, here's the one we're all scratching our head at. Suggested MSRP according to Hasbro's site 9.99$ US Meaning, that if Wal-Mart is stupid enough to actually charge 18.94$ for it than they've doubled the US price on this set, which is something not even LEGO does, we tend to get 20$ LEGO sets at 25$ depending on Retailer, so the price of this set I would expect would probably be roughly 14-15.99$ Or in other words the price of Hasbro's Deluxe Transformers, still a tad high, but nowhere near as asininely stupid or Zellers Pricing of the 18.94$ that was seen in that photo.

I didn't notice the price of the larger sets like Enterprise or that Klingon-Bird-of-Prey, but if CND Retailers are going to start price gouging us this badly on Hasbro's product just because of the fuckin' movie hype I'm going to have to question their God Damned sanity.

CND Wal-Marts have never been this price challenged before, and I certainly hope they correct this oversight. Because if they don't and TRU actually has lower prices on these Star Trek Kre-O sets for a change, well... You know where my money is going to be going. I hardly doubt that TRU will upscale the prices from Hasbro's MSRP that high and if they do then I'm going to lose complete faith in this economy, seriously our dollar is at par for consecutive months. I don't give a shit if that doesn't really change how prices are made, shooting themselves in the foot and losing sales by doubling the price on a product that is only 10$ in the states is absurd and utterly stupid because you're just going to drive all the business for that product over the boarder.

Heh, I'll just bet the US collectors will harp about that 10$ price point also.

Re: Star Trek Kreo Bird of Prey Released in Canada

Ok, a few things to note now that I've had the chance to see these things in person.

First of all, why did Hasbro stick 65 Pieces in such a large box? No wonder the stores are over-pricing these things. That Transporter Troubles set is in a box much larger than any of the previous 9.99$ to 12.99$ coverted sets, which may be why CND retailers are upping the price so drastically.

Wal-Mart didn't have it, but TRU did and I scanned it in, TRU's price is actually lower than Wal-Marts, but still higher than I'd be willing to pay for 65 pieces, though I have to admit I was tempted. Scanner said the set cost 16.99$ which is close to Wal-Mart's abysmially high cost of the set, but not exactly there. You'd be paying the same price Wal-Mart is asking at Retail with Taxes more than likely.

Wal-Mart's price scanner asked me to get an asscociate for the Klingon Bird-Of-Prey, no price tag and nobody around to ask I wasn't about to chance it, is this thing massively over-priced as well or is it more reasonable? Judging by box size alone I'd rank it around Street Showdown/Battle for Energon size, which puts my price estimate between 35-50$ depending on which set they're using as a template for the price.

TRU had a ton of the Space Dive set, which actually is 7.99$ as I figured, doesn't list a piece count, but I count at least 25 pieces, pretty much in keeping with the Mech Venom Strike and Dragon Assault sets we got at that price point for Transformers. (Incidentally I also bought it, it's a pretty decent set, and I wound up with a spare piece, not sure if that was intentional or not, but I have an extra clear red piece that acts as an overhead light for the space dock door.

Judging by the look of it I have to say I'm way off base with the Spock's Volcano Mission set, it is nowhere close to the same size as Space Dive as I initially thought, it's more around the same size I think as the Transport Troubles... Now if that one has close to 200 pieces I can see myself paying 16.99$ for it if it actually is that price, but if so why on God's Earth is The TT one such a drastic difference in piece count?

Light Tech Kreons are fairly interesting, if a little cumbersome, they lack waist articulation as they come fully assembled Torso wise in the bag, since they are full of electronics. It work's fairly well, but it is a bit tough to get it to work, you seem to have press fairly hard on the back of the Kreon to activate the lights.

Aside from that one price snafu I think these sets all look quite impressive and will be fairly fun to collect, as long as they aren't all overpriced to begin with. I'm thinking Transporter Troubles may be a one-off incident, but I can't be sure until I know how much they're asking for that damn Bird-Of-Prey. (So I might just buy it come Friday.)

I wonder why they don't give you a name for the other Kreon though, is it to avoid Spoilers? The instructions call him Specialist, but the box for Space Dive lists no names at all, so you don't even know it is Kirk until you get it open.

Saw this at my local Walmart today, scanned to double check the price tag ($29,94, and it didn't even ask me to go find help...lol). Looks fairly interesting!

The reality check right there.

No bricks trying to compete with Lego should be as expensive, let alone MORE so, than Lego.

One of my local Walmarts has had a shelf space and price tag up for over a week now, but no actual set. Maybe I'll swing by again later today.

Almost as bad is not the same thing as bad factoring in the size of the item in question, the fact that most LEGO sets of a similar size with light up functionality would cost probably in the 100$ range I feel 75$ isn't asking too much for a set of this size, with the light up feature.

Most 400+ LEGO sets with few exceptions also don't build massive star ships, or use large saucer type pieces. As I recall, back in the late 90's there was a Saucer styled LEGO Theme called UFO, the biggest set we ever owned was probably not much more than that 75$ price tag. With the cost of inflation and everything LEGO's current market prices for the same set have doubled in scope, meanwhile Kre-O is bringing to you a similar sized vessel at the same cost as the older UFO LEGO brand set. Yeah, definitely a better bargain.

EDIT: This year LEGO has a set called Vermin Vaporizer, it's 506 pieces and costs 74.99$ CND, this set however does not feature light up bricks, includes only 3 Mini-Figures, uses that number of pieces to build a much smaller looking 4-wheeled vehicle and a small bug thing keeping in with the Galaxy Squad theme. So yeah, while the Enterprise has less pieces, the pieces are larger, you build an iconic looking spaceship from a known sci-fi Theme/Franchise and you get 5 Kreons... No wait... Yes that's right 5 Kreons, plus the light tech light up feature. All in all, while LEGO appears to have the better deal by piece count, the actual contents of the two sets are not as cut and dry as piece counts would make you think.

you have good points but if you compare it to other kreo the big prime was 532 pieces for 60$
