Unfortunately nothing is scared anymore. Not even the very production of HNIC...when CBC's contract expires in 2010 or 2011 with the NHL, TSN is taking it over.

When the last round of contracts were renewed with CBC and TSN, TSN let CBC keep HNIC going and basically publically stated that at the end of these sets of contracts between CBC and the NHL, TSN will outbid and take over the production of Saturday night games. CBC won't have enough money.

So enjoy your HNIC while it lasts, a Canadian Tradition is coming to an end.

The Hockey Night in Canada Theme is no more.

Having no hockey night in canada on the CBC with that iconic themesong will be a national tragedy, and I for one think it shameful that TSN would try to take that away from the country.

You might look at it as a little bit shameful, but it makes good business sense. They look like the white knight coming to save Canadian heritage while the evil CBC is letting it die a horrible death. If your competition is going to let something like that go... why not jump all over it.

It doesn't even make sense for CTV(TSN) to acquire the rights to the tune if HNIC is still on CBC for the next little while; the tune is too synonymous to fit to any other hockey telecast.
