Hockey Night in Canada theme song
As I'm sure everyone knows by now, Wednesday could possibly be the last time HNIC will use the iconic song. So what's everyone's take on this? Will you be signing the multitude of petitions that are bound to pop up (in order to keep it) during the next couple of weeks.
It's funny that this potential loss of the HNIC is actually like the 2nd or 3rd headline that the newscasts were showing all night too!  I love this country.

I was reading about this earlier today. I would be bummed if they did lose the rights. Although I read another article saying they were looking at negotiating future use.
Saturday nights would not be the same without it.

They were saying it was, what, $500 every time they played it? And after all these years, now it's become too much for them?
I learned how to play this song in highschool... it'd be a shame to not hear Canada's unofficial anthem before a hockey game.

Why didn't they just full-buy the song 20 years ago?
Maybe they can use "a Good Ol Hockey Game" by Stompin Tom Conners

Because it's the CBC? They're not exactly known for making the best decisions lately.

The contract for $500 per telecast is up and the woman who created the theme/owns the rights is suing CBC. So they really can't renew the contract until that's settled.
Just because CBC doesn't have the rights doesn't mean TSN or Sportsnet can't buy it!

I can see TSN swooping in on it. Especially after their new deal with the NHL. I get the feeling that one of the higher ups at the CBC is not realizing the the sports division is a fairly good source of income for them.
