Hockey Night in Canada theme song

CTV saw an opportunity, and took it. It'll now be played during hockey broadcasts, and during the olympic coverage in 2010.

CBC just didn't care enough, and simply made a last ditch effort to get it because they knew CTV wanted it. Although maybe CBC wasted all their money in getting to broadcast Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. :P

I thought CBC didn't take it simply because they didn't have enough money to pay for the royalties and the rights of Hockey Night in Canada (music and brand).


Compared to the other broadcasting networks though, I don't think they really have much in terms of spending money. They're a funded by the government after all.

I heard this on the radio the other day, and doesn't it make sense to get ol' Stompin Tom's "The Hockey Song" as the next theme? Seems a simple solution and CBC still has the Canadian heritage thing going for it.

Come on TSN... get on it and buy the rights to this too!

The whole thing is kinda stupid really, but glad to see that it was picked up somewhere. Someone at CBC has some splaining to do though.
