Did I miss something...

So I get this email update from both TFSource and BBTS.

This new release of Sentinel 22" Scorponok looks very cool but come on. $569USD Cool?

http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/p...90&mode=retail

So to me this figure is on the same lines as these ones we have all seen at TRU and Walmart
Those huge figures like Superman and Darth Vader.

Just a very slight price difference don't you think?

Those Superman and Darth Vader units are barely poseable.

They are also mass produced in the 10s of thousands, maybe more and likely done in a company owned factory.

The Scorponok figure would have a much smaller production run, much greater articulation and is likely done as a contract with an independent factory.

Re: Did I miss something...

For a non transforming PVC figure. Its quality would have to be superior to the high end companies such as HotToys or Gentle Giants to justify that cost. Will be interesting to see some reviews.

Why's that? Hot Toys doesn't make stuff as tall as Fortress Maximus. The materials cost eclipses theirs, for starters.

Also, as someone who's bought Sentinel stuff in the past, their product is most definitely high end. It's just usually not in the same size bracket as 1/6 items as they do a lot of ultraposable robot toys.

Fortress Maximus as I am sure you where aware was a Takara Encore Reissue obtained for around $350Can not 650USD for a non transforming action figure. If I would directly compare it with Fort Max then without the complexity of the engineering going into the transformation process its value should decrease. This then IMO it potentially turns it into a hollow pressed out action figure as you put it.
If ratchet joints and high quality plastic injection molding translates into the high end price point then I'd expect a top notch hand painted customized figure that a Sideshow or Gentle Giant would produce. Isn't is essentially a homage statue with articulation at this point?

Yes, Magnus was a reissue. With existing tooling.

So costs are going to be lower PURELY by the virtue of that fact.

I compare this figure due to price point and overall presentation. I own many HotToys, Gentle Giant and Sideshow statues and this should fall within that category IMO. It's an articulated statue isn't it. I don't see any customized detailed hand painting nor electronics.
