This is scary. I have almost the same thing in an unsubmitted reply one tab over.
The video isn't exactly talking about toy "trends" so much as "fads". I'm glad that Transformers has had a long life and can't really be called a "fad" in the same way as many of the other items in the list (cough, pogs).
Interesting to me that Hasbro claimed several entries, and I fully expected to see Star Wars toys there.

Yeah, I remember Star Wars stuff being almost as big as Power Rangers back when they re-released the original movies back in the 90's, but I think it was more of an overall fandom, rather than having a LOT of dollar values behind the toys. And yeah, MLP outsold Barbie?
Also, other than Elemo, Cabbage Pach & the Rubix cubes, I have all of those things.

In Hasbro's history, prior to the 2007 movie, the most toy sales in Transformers lifespan was 1985 with 14 million, it almost ALMOST got beaten by Beast Wars in 1998 with 11 million but then those Bay movies came along and well....... the rest is history.
