Re: Canada Post strike/lockout may be coming July 2...
Sure it'll suck getting our packages delayed if there is a strike, but just imagine how awesome it'll be to get all of them in at one time after it's all sorted out, it'll be like Xmas!

Plus all of those duty and other shipping charges all at once, it'll be just like Christmas because every one will be broke.

That's because it will be Xmas before the strike ends...well, hopefully not.

Indeed.
I haven't researched the issue although one of my fellow collector's actually works for CP. I'm sure both sides have valid points, and I support workers striking to achieve more equitable treatment.
Being upset because we don't get our toys in time in the face of people's livelihoods being impacted is a bit silly, eh? =)

The problem with the strike is CP is broke, and will be continually broke due to pension payments as workers retire. CP wants to change the pension, as it is not sustainable.
Anyway you look at it, we lose, taxes will increase to pay out the pensions in the upcoming years.

Re: Canada Post strike/lockout may be coming July 2...
The pensions they get are insane, Cp puts out more money on pensions and pay than it takes in and they tried to cut cost by starting the big mail boxes but that stopped. I have a letter carrier friend and he finished his rout that includes a 1 hour lunch that he gets picked up in an a cab and dropped off at the same spot on cps dime all in 3-4 hours but gets paid for an 8 hour day and then he drives a city bus for 4 hours. He said to me that he's laughing all the way to the bank as he puts it.
He should be paid for his time worked and not max pay for half time. That's my 2 cents.

Re: Canada Post strike/lockout may be coming July 2...
I'm afraid this is all true. I've heard of stories ages ago where carriers would finish their day before 1pm and take the rest off. Amongst the crowd, it was a real selling point for a CP job along with a decent pension.
As it stands CP is not sustainable, everyone knows this. The solution is probably to privatize or partially privatize CP thereby having shareholders exert pressure and attempt to steer CP to profitability. Until then, we are on all the hook to keep CP solvent.

Same with hydro one workers. 1-5 pension and 100K+ salaries.

Re: Canada Post strike/lockout may be coming July 2...
I've been in contact with some stores I buy from as I have a couple things in transit. Ages3andup told me that they are trying to figure out a work around. I'm sure this whole ordeal hurts more then just us consumers. I mean who wants to buy not knowing when your stuff will arrive. And other options (purolator ups fedex) are too costly IMO.
