What would you consider "Vintage?"
So a couple weeks ago I was at a local comic shop and they had a Marvel Universe "Avengers Assemble" Thor (w/Light up base). They had a price sticker, and then another sticker with "Vintage" written on it as well. We are talking about a figure less than 3 years old. REALLY!!???!!
So it got me to thinking, in regards to Transformers, what would you consider "vintage?"
Do you have a specific criteria, or is it just a sort of feeling about what is or isn't vintage.
Do you have a specific line that seperates vintage from not vintage? A specific year?
I know that most of us will consider G1 vintage, but what about Beast Wars? R.I.D.? AEC?
Looking back to the approximate earliest year, BW was 1996? So nearly 18 years. Is that long enough? R.I.D. was 2000? so 14 years?
So basically, for you as a collector, is there an upper or lower time that makes something vintage?

The person who owns the comic store you were in is a moron. The only toys that are vintage with Transformers are diaclone and such that came before TFs, G1, and G1, nothing else is old enough to be 'vintage'

I wouldn't know but my guess is: something that is 20 years old and adults pay a lot of money for it.

Re: What would you consider "Vintage?"
Denoting something from the past of high quality, especially something representing the best of its kind.
Beast Wars? You have no taste.
Masterpiece?
Binaltech?
G1?
With how lower quality products are being passed as TF, retail and 3P alike, even Animated and Human Alliance at some point in time perhaps.

Re: What would you consider "Vintage?"
Vintage:
- (noun) of lasting interest and importance; venerable; classic: the vintage TF:The Movie from the mid 80's
- (adjective) a time of origin: The original Optimus Prime is a character of G1 vintage

Re: What would you consider "Vintage?"
Generally speaking. Vintage vs Antique etc is 30 years vs 100 years.
And more often then not both are used to described something that does not fall into the category. Like 90's toys are not vintage. And 50's auto mobiles are not antiques. Yet some would describe them as such when selling.

Re: What would you consider "Vintage?"
For transformers, I would say anything pre-beast wars.
Beast Wars will be considered vintage sometime within the next 10 years...

I don't have an answer to your question but I was also at a local comic shop where they referred to some fairly recent transformers figures as being "vintage". I asked them about it and their explanation was that they marked anything that was sold to them for resale by customers (and not their distributor) as being vintage. I think it was just a way for them to manage their inventory.
