Toy Prices: Canada Vs. USA
We have this debate in the media for books, why not for toys?
Anyone else notice the price difference between Canada and USA?
For example a deluxe at toysrus.ca is $15.99 while toysrus.com is $12.99. And I picked another item at random. A Wii Nerf Racing Wheel is $13 is Canada and $10 in U.S. So what gives?
Does anyone think the arguments of difference in Canadian dollar and/or 'we buy our stock months/years prior so we have to price our inventory accordingly' applies to toys?
Personally I'm not 100% sold on these arguments for books so I don't see them applying for toys.

I was thinking the same thing. If they put orders in even a yr ago, the exchange was almost on par so you'd think the prices would be a lot closer than what they are now.

Shipping/distribution costs?
Canada's population is spread out farther and shipping costs are going up...

The cost seperation seems closer than it ever has been to me, it's just that ours hasn't come down while there's has gone up.

Re: Toy Prices: Canada Vs. USA
Yeah, but they don't ship through the mail though, they ship by truck, just like in the States, so shipping costs should be about the same.
And sure the trucks here have to travel farther to get to stores due to our spread out population, but since there are more people, and therefore more cities/towns in the US, the trucks there have to travel to more places, so the costs should average out.

Population has alot to do with it aswell. When your ordering for a country that has over 300 million people vs a country with nearly 40 million. There will be huge discounts as to the ammount of stock that comes in. Plus when making bigger orders you pay less in shipping overall.
Thats my 2cents

The thing is, they may have to travel to more places but they are also selling more product to more people. So travel time and distance being relatively equal, if there are less items sold in Canada that means there are higher costs per item here. It's all about logistics.
I've said it before in another thread, due to many factors, I can see the US price coming up more before we see any sort of reduction in the Canadian prices.

Re: Toy Prices: Canada Vs. USA
transportation costs, more specifically shipping further because of smaller population spread out over a greater area + gas/diesel prices are higher in canada = higher shipping costs on everything that has to be passed onto consumers.
