What I find really to be the problem in certain newer stuff is the 'need' to align everything just right during transformation to get the vehicle mode to snap together correctly and go flush with the surface they're displayed on so all four tires can touch the ground. Or six tires or whatever the vheicle mode is supposed to do when it's in vehicle mode.
Hasbro's Engineers seem to think that all these modern movie toys need to be the most complex, fiddly pieces of annoying scrap in the universe, the problem then comes from QC issues. Some of the pieces are cut off at the mold's sprue with too much excess plastic, causing problems in transformation.
There are some who wind up with two left or two right pieces due to someone not paying enough attention. I think the QC people should be forced to sit there and transform every single toy and if a piece doesn't do what it is supposed to, or it breaks, then that mold should either go back to the design phase before total mass production or the thickness of certain parts should be looked into to prevent the breakage stress mark issues.
Of course if the materials of the plastics are getting to be too weak due to limited supply and stuff I guess what we need for our Transformers then is... RECYCLE!
