New law: Resale of Childrens toys illegal?
http://www.kvue.com/news/top/stories....466a87af.html
I'm wondering just how this is going to affect us as collectors, even though we're in Canada. Hopefully some answers will be forthcoming.

US law does not affect Canada.

Re: New law: Resale of Childrens toys illegal?
I beg to differ
It affects suppliers, it affects dealers, therefore it affects our access to some things. It affects Ebay, etc
Granted, I don't think this law has anything really behind it. Especially with only a month until it kicks in. This isn't even on CNN or anything yet.

Re: New law: Resale of Childrens toys illegal?
Wow, this is crazy.
So the definition is "Toys clothing and other items used by children under 12." That seems too broad, so I'd be more interested to see what the legislation really says. According to the definition in the story, any item used by a child under 12 can't be resold. This would include pencils, umbrellas, laptop computers, stereo systems, luggage, Sony PSP, Nintendo Wii, and so many other things, so long as they are used by children under 12. I highly doubt it's that broad.
Then again some of the legislation that's come out of the states recently has been poorly drafted, like that one which allowed teenage children to be abandoned to the custody of the state "no questions asked."
In any event I'd be interested also to see how they will enforce this. This will be interesting legislation to watch.

It's going to affect Canadians willing to purchase used toys from the US.

There must be some provision to have things rated as antiques or collectibles in some way.
That just makes no sense at all......

Re: New law: Resale of Childrens toys illegal?
Stupid, ridiculous overreaction. Why is that people think that they can save the world by making more laws...The people who are selling the toys are not making them unsafe...perhaps the government should go after the people responsible.
Also, people with young children can relate to this, buying used stuff is raising a kid 101. Why spend top dollar (and I mean top dollar) on something that will only be used for a few months. This law, if it can even be enforced, will create criminals out of normal, decent people...

This law sounds completely ridiculous and impossible to enforce in the vague manner in which it is presented.

Re: New law: Resale of Childrens toys illegal?
Who cares about real crime when we can send good officers out to enforce ridiculous crap like this?
Does no one have any faith in parents at all anymore? If this is really about keeping kids from getting toys with excess lead and other chemicals, is it not realistic to think that parents will actually think about what they are buying their kids? I mean we can joke about it all we want, but really there are some good parents out there

This is garbage lobbyist, angry mother shit. Even 10 years from now, it can only be enforced against businesses. Business that have the best chance of being organized, and reselling used good responsibly. Meanwhile, all the basement dwellers that don't give a rats ass about policy will be given an open play field with no risk or persecution.
