If I may offer 3 pieces of suggestion:
3) ... I personally recommend against using white primer, and generally opt for grey primers instead. In general, white primers tends to have coarser particles, which tends to not spray on as light or as smooth as grey primers. This might help you avoid the pooling of primer, as the thinner coats are less likely to accumulate in the recesses.

^ agreed white primer is the worst, I prefer grey , or Krylon plastic paint "beige".
If you use white, the only way I have gotten it to somewhat work is many VERY light coats, and even then it ends up being to thick. if your using it directly out of a spray can, you can " decant it (
