1985 Consumers Distributed prices

Someone found a 1985 Consumers Distributed catalog on reddit https://old.reddit.com/r/toronto/com...log_from_1985/ . I will let someone else workout if the prices have overshot inflation.

I never had the pleasure of Consumers Distributing

But I love Treasure Hunt, and seems like I may have loved this place too

Cool. I may be a rare bird but I love this nerdy math stuff. The bank of Canada actually has an inflation cluculator on-line:

https://www.bankofcanada.ca/rates/related/inflation-calculator/

In running a couple of prices through it:

Soundwave: $16.66 in 1985, should be $39.93 in 2022
Optimus Prime: $24.44 in 1985, should be $58.58 in 2022
Astrotrain of Blitzwing: $12.88 in 1985, should $30.87 in 2022

Make of those prices what you will. They seem low to me based on what I'd expect a re-issue to cost but not by as much as I thought.

It has a special place in my heart. Got my first transformer ever, G1 Optimus, from Consumers Distributing, then Megatron, G1 SOUNDWAVE and Blaster too.

Indeed, those prices almost look current...

I remember going to Consumers Distributing as a kid. It was like ordering from a website, but in person.
You'd go, stand in a wide open waiting room, and there was nothing on display. You'd flip through the catalog, and someone would get you the toys from the warehouse in the back.
I remember being so bored there as a kid, that I needed to bring my own toys with me to entertain myself while my parents decided what to buy.

lol, personal massager. I remember seeing that way back as a kid and couldn't believe my eyes and thought it was just my imagination.

The Tribots on page 3. I used to have the yellow boat guy, Nav-L (had to google that). He's not pictured here, but now I kinda want the other two molds of these.

Always a long wait there and many times your item was OOS. CD taught us as kids to 'always have a backup plan'! It would suck worse if you were trying to aim towards a goal like combiner limbs. Never had Stunticons but had Motormaster all by his lonesome for years. LOL.

Last time at CD was late 80s, and while were we in Montreal, got 2 Joes and I don’t even remember when they all closed after that.
