So many Megatron figures

With all the Megatron's figures out there, there's a huge selection for those who are looking for a Megatron figure. I am not talking about Nerftron, MP Megatron and the upcoming TR Voyager Triple-Changer Blitzwing re-tool Megatron. I am referring to the 3rd party Megatron's.

From the following figures, which ones you think it's the best (not saying, I am getting one, but like to see your opinion).

X-Transbot Apollyon
Combiner Wars Megatron
MakeToys Depostron
DX9 Mightron

Re: So many Megatron figures

If I was going to buy a 3P MP Megatron (I'm buying Rioter Despotron) I'd go with the Maketoys one, since it looks on average great from every angle and I like a lot of the sculpt. I think individual pieces of the other ones look better but they don't sum up to as good.

Re: So many Megatron figures

Despotron all the way for me. Cartoon thick and very cool transformation. Trigger hides inside chest. No gun kibble. Beautiful.

Pascal 09-07-2016 07:33 AM

Re: So many Megatron figures

1. DX9 Mightron = looks fantastic in gun mode and from the front in robot mode, weird back kibble
2. MakeToys Despotron = looks fantastic in gun mode and from the front in robot mode, gun tip sticks out a bit too much at the back, weird skirt
3. X-Transbot Apollyon = looks good, but a pain to transform and not very playable
4. Combiner Wars Megatron = not a gun, too simplistic, boring to transform

It all depends whether you want a pistol or a tank.

Re: So many Megatron figures

For me Apollyon. I have him in my collection now, and yeah he was kind of scarey to transform, but if you take your time, he is not that bad...besides I don't really play with my tfs..I transform them a couple of times then put them on display, usually in robot mode anyway.

Re: So many Megatron figures

DX9 Mightron for me, no question.

Apollyon's proportions just seem off to me, especially his cannon, and I don't like the visible trigger on his legs. Despotron looks like he's wearing goalie pads on his legs, and his face sculpt isn't 'cartoon' enough for me.

Mightron has the best balance of proportions, cannon design, and face sculpt to make him the best choice for cartoon accuracy in my eyes.

While this doesn't show Apollyon, I made this comparison image to show just how close Mightron is to cartoon model.

I am also a fan of DX9 this time I wanted to Like the Maketoys one but the legs on it just don't do it for me, I am not a fan of how curved they look

One vote for Combiner Wars!

'Cause that's the one I have, and have this far successfully avoided the cash-absorbing black hole called 3rd Party.

Re: So many Megatron figures

Since I already have X-Transbot Apollyon, I will stick to it because I don't think MT or DX9 are significant better, so doesn't justify paying another $150 for any of them.

If I don't have 3rd party Megatron, I will go with DX9, because the price is much lower. From Chimungmung, DX9 version is $100, and MT version is $150.

I also have the Combiner Wars figure. It looks pretty spot on in bot mode. The head is perfect. Chest looks good too. He looks good between MP Soundwave, and G1 Shockwave.

Re: So many Megatron figures

Have:
Appolyon but bot proportions are off for me. Otherwise it's nice.
CW Megs. It's okay. Seriously considering selling him as he doesn't scale with anything else. Will trade for CW Sky Lynx. :D

Getting DX9 as he looks G1 Toon megs. Calves look weird but I can deal with that after seeing Sixo's pics.

MT Despotron looks too chunky, like Dreamwave G1 Megs. If that's your thing then yeah it's a great looking bot but for me not grabbing me as a must buy.

Re: So many Megatron figures

I'm honestly torn between DX9 and Maketoys but I am leaning towards the beefier Maketoys.

Re: So many Megatron figures

Since I haven't gotten into 3rd party figures, CW Megatron is currently my favorite. He scales almost perfectly with official Masterpiece figures, which is where he's being displayed in my collection (until we get an official MP Megatron 2.0 anyhow).

Re: So many Megatron figures

I regretted not being able to find a CW Megatron...until I saw the TR Voyager we'll be getting in a few months. That's the Megatron I want; his robot borrows quite a lot of visual cues from MTMTE Megatron, and I really, really like MTMTE Megatron. So that's the one I want.

Re: So many Megatron figures

Another vote for CW Megs. Just cause I don't feel like going in debt for the 3rd party offerings.

Re: So many Megatron figures

I really wanted to like the maketoys version but it just looks like a brick to me. That being said, Appollyon will remain my mp scale megs.

I would add that cw meg is a hell of a bargain, especially if he purchased at the $30 sale price

Re: So many Megatron figures

Going with Maketoys Despotron. I got to handle it at TFCon and loved how it matched the slightly stylized aesthetic of MP-10 Optimus. A lot of people seem to be complaining about the face or expression shown on the photos but it comes with like 2 or 3 other faces along with the stock one so you have a few to choose from. IMO, the photos are a bit deceiving (weird lighting/angles?) - it's not actually as stout as it looks when you have it in hand. It's certainly more stylized than Mightron or Apollyon, but like I said I think it matches MP-10's aesthetic more closely than the others.

I like it enough that I'm selling my Apollyon and replacing it.

Re: So many Megatron figures

What? No love for Robotmasters Rebirth Megatron?

Here's a tangent:
Anyways, if looking for a G2-ish bayverse Megatron, I'd suggest movie 1's Brawl with a Megatron head. I experimented with the deluxe figure and Wreckage's head. Still transforms, looks sufficiently deadly, and has a decent arm cannon on the correct arm. I suppose the Leader class would work with a head swap from some other Megatron.

DCompose 09-07-2016 04:29 PM

Re: So many Megatron figures

Combiner wars from that list.

There is no better Megatron toy than the original G1.

To go further. There is no better Transformers toy, period, than G1 Megs :)

Re: So many Megatron figures

All the third party megatron's legs look off to me. None are perfect or even close. I own Apollyon. If I didnt own him, I'd go for Despotron.

I haven't heard or seen anything about accessories for the new Megatrons. Do they have the gun barrel and stalk attachments? If not that's a leg up for Apollyon. :p

Just throwing this in the gladator arena, I vote for GENERATION TOYS GT-2 IDW Steath Bomber Megatron. It's a design I really like and it's also MP scale.

i have been of fan of maketoys for years, but i think dx9 looks better.

Re: So many Megatron figures

If I were starting from scratch it would be between Maketoys (transformation and quality) vs DX9 (looks from front). But since I have Pollygone and neither strikes me as quite better enough for the hassle, I'll stick with Polly. He does the job and looks the part.

All three are great MP-Style Megatrons with their own plus/minus features. Which is why it's hilarious to watch So many of the TFWers declare one the winner and the other two garbage, then fight incessantly. :p

My opinion is simple: all these 3P figures are showing that an "MP" style Megatron is feasible. Therefore, I am awaiting the Official Takara offering!

You're telling my story. Until Mightron became a reality, my CW Megatron with the upgrade kit was holding his spot with my MP collection.

My vote is for the knock off of CW with a knock off of 3rd party upgrade:rofl:. Picked him up in China when I was on a business trip, tag said 550 RMB(a little over $100 CAD)... at the end I walked off with him for 80 RMB ($15 CAD) and a bunch of curse words free of charge.:argh:
