I wanted to start this thread so obakemono's production thread doesn't get derailed any further.

As some of you may know Lucas is looking to dig deeper into the pockets of suckers like me with a soft spot for that galactic cash cow that he loves to play dress-up with...I'm talking about the cinematic re-release of all 6 STAR WARS movies in 3D. The way I see it I'll have to sit through 3 shitty Episodes, then A New Hope to finally get to The Empire Strikes Back, then breath a sigh of relief that it's almost over after witnessing the "Jedi Rocks" musical number from Retun of the Jedi. If the release schedule is 1 or 2 films a year that makes 3 to 6 years of my life!!!

Well, it looks like we're off to a shaky start with the current marketing campaign of Episode I The Phantom Menace: Strange French fast food burger tie-ins. Face palm inducing Brisk Iced Tea ads. "Vintage" figures on toy store pegs. And now commercials aimed at children:

Though I must admit the Episode I release on February 10th coincides nicely with my son's 5th birthday. Perhaps some quality father/son time watching Jar-Jar Binks electrocute his ugly face in 3D is in order.

Herpaderp. My girlfriend mentioned wanting to go see it, I can't tell if she was joking or not.

I must admit, it's been a long time since I've seen Episode I, but I'm not sure if I can sit through having to watch Jar Jar again for so long.

But I guess if I can push back the fanrage it could be a fun experience, seeing it for the first time again. Kind of like Star Tours, except longer and not motion-sickness inducing!

I am somewhat surprised that Darth Maul is getting all the attention with this 3D re-release. His face is on every new SW toys.

Anyways, I would wait until there are some review on the 3D treatment. I am not a fan of post-op 3D treatment and this could could be really bad. Maybe I'll sneak into the theatre next door after watching another movie. Do I really want to see Jar Jar's saliva flying off his fraking tongue?

I saw a 3D trailer for the Episode One in the theatre a few weeks back and if that was any indication of how good the 3D is going to be, I would have to say meh. It wasn't awful but really didn't blow my socks off either. YMMV. I'll see it anyways. Time to go check how many scene points I have.

Well, you don't HAVE to watch the prequels if you don't want to. I'm certainly not going to. I may even need convincing to see the original trilogy in 3d...

^Thanks to the 5 years I worked as a manager at Famous Players I have the fine distinction of being dumb enough to have watched The Phantom Menace 17 times on the big screen and Attack of the Clones 30+ times. Thankfully I quit by the time Revenge of the Sith came out. Mind you, each screening was free, I took a friend who hadn't seen the movie yet every time and the 30+ I saw AotC includes shifts as an IMAX Projectionst running the film
